Today is the birthday for my friend Jeff “Stretch” Riedle, the man whose antics inspired the infamous KFJC Maximum LOUIE LOUIE marathon, and the big LOUIE LOUIE documentary project which this website is all about. Today, Stretch is probably lounging around on some Santa Cruz beach in his birthday suit. Or maybe he’s hammering away on the drumkit, making some kinda musical sounds in a recording studio. Then again, may just be slaving away at his day job today, trying to earn a buck. Either way, I expect him to celebrate one way or another today….
Today, for this week’s LOUIE of the Week, I’ll showcase one of Stretch’s bands. This is Cassady’s Hammer, which features Stretch on drums, Thomas Dilbeck on bass and David “Duckie” Borough on guitar. On this performance, they are joined by special guest John Allen Cassady, son of literary adventurer Neal Cassady. John was named after Neal’s friends Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg. This is a performance of a song called “Irish Groove” which segues into “Louie Louie.”
