Posted on June 28, 2010

Last week, we lost Pete Quaife, the original bassist for the Kinks. Pete played on such early hits as “You Really Got Me,” “All Day and All of the Night” and “Tired of Waiting for You” before leaving the British band in 1969, passed away at the age of 66 years old.

Quaife died Wednesday of kidney failure in Herlev, Denmark, according to British news reports. He had moved to Denmark in 2005 after having lived in Canada for many years.

“Without Pete there would have been no Kinks,” Dave Davies, stated on his website. “He was a great musician. You could always trust his playing, creative input, intuitive response to musical ideas.”

This week to celebrate the legacy of this talented man, the LOUIE of the Week shall be a 1965 performance by the Kinks, live in Paris.
