If a certain client would have paid me for a job I did two months ago, I would have gladly flown to New York last weekend to see the reunion of the Sonics. I would have loved to have been there for this once-in-a-lifetime event, but some things don’t always turn out as planned, unfortunately.
My friend Alex of MallSecurity, the FIRST band on MySpace to share their version of LOUIE LOUIE, caught the Sunday (November 4th) performance, and gave me a quick rundown of the show:
Just got home from the Sonics gig — didn’t get to see them on Friday, but they were amazing tonight. They worked the crowd of 1,000+ into a frenzy. Here’s the set list:
1) He’s Waiting
2) Money
3) Cinderella
4) Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark
5) The Hustler
6) Boss Hoss
7) You’ve Got Your Head on Backwards
8) High Time
9) Have Love Will Travel
10) Strychnine
11) Night and Day
12) Like No Other Man
13) Maintaining My Cool
14) I’m Going Home
15) Walking the Dog
16) Dirty Robber
17) Shot Down
18) PsychoEncore:
19) LOUIE LOUIE
20) The Witch
Thanks to a crafty YouTuber, and another Sonics fan on MySpace, I found a totally unauthorized video from the Sonics reunion. Until the legitimate video of this show gets released, this crappy video will have to suffice. Here’s their performance of “Have Love Will Travel,” the song Richard Berry wrote after LOUIE LOUIE.
UPDATE:
Here’s another unauthorized video of the Sonics doing “Have Love Will Travel.” You can see some close-ups of the band in this video, but the audio is even worse than the other one. I am soooo looking forward to seeing the AUTHORIZED video of this show, instead of this stuff…
