I’d heard about the Dave Matthews Band doing LOUIE LOUIE. In fact, last year I mentioned that LOUIE LOUIE was part of song called “Warehouse” which was on “The Best of Whats Around Vol.1″ 2-CD collection. If you look on YouTube, you can find some different video clips of this song, including an undated, no-location version from Summer of 2006, and a performance from a show at Denver, Colorado on September 12, 2006.
Today, I’ve got something special. It’s the Dave Matthews Band with Toots Hibbert of Toots & the Maytals, performing the “Warehouse / LOUIE LOUIE” medley. Randall, one of my new cyberspace friendsIt’s , just sent me a clip of these two gentlemen performing on August 11, 2007 at Nissan Pavilion, Bristow, Virginia.
It’s actually a video of the big screen video shown at the event, which is fine. I’m glad someone captured the moment.
It should be noted that Toots & the Maytals performed the very first reggae version of LOUIE LOUIE, which was on the “Funky Kingston” album that came out in 1973. Truth be told, Toots was also the first musician to use the term “reggae” which was featured on his 1968 single “Do the Reggay.”
Toots is an underrated giant in the music biz, and it’s a hoot to see him perform with others. If you get a chance to see Toots in concert, run, do not walk to his concert. He’s the real deal.
Here’s Toots performing with the Dave Matthews Band. The LOUIE vocals kick in at 5:23. ENJOY!
