The Ukelele Underground of Portland – LOUIE of the Week

Posted on January 23, 2014

This week’s LOUIE is a special performance that comes from the Kingsmen’s hometown in Portland, Oregon.

I just received a little correction on what I thought was a band called the Little White Uke. Here’s a correction from UkuleleDaddy:

We’re honored to be included on your blog! I just wanted to make a correction though. We’re not a band called Little White Uke. We’re just three guys who are part of a ukulele forum on Ukulele Underground. Another guy from that forum began something called The Little White Uke project last year. He sent this little white ukulele from one person to another around the world. Each person who receives the uke makes a vid of a song from where they live. Living in Portland we couldn’t pass up the chance to record the most iconic song from our little corner of the world. That opening picture from our video shows the white uke with everyone’s signature who has played it so far. From Portland it goes on to Canada.

With this mind, here’s the revised description….

The players in this performance are participating in the Little White Uke Project. They are TheOnlyUkeThatMatters, Librainian, and UkuleleDaddy. This version includes a quick snippet from the Todd Snider song – “The Ballad Of The Kingsmen.”

We’ll just call ’em The Ukelele Underground of Portland!

    Thanks again for the recognition.

Very cool shout out and a fun website you have going here! Thanks for picking up the vid we posted but just a minor correction. We are not in a band called “Little White Uke,” this video is one of many posted through a thread on Ukulele Underground. The Little White Uke project (LWU for short) was the brainchild of PaBrizzer in Australia. He had the bright idea to post this little ukulele around the world to different forum members and we are all recording videos with it and signing it. It will eventually return to Australia and be displayed in his home. The link in my comment is the thread regarding all the destinations and videos posted to date. There is also a playlist of the collected videos at: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWWTvJrk8iLxmJOBCkKVcUMOePoPZeX4j

    Cheers!
