With the upcoming Animal House 40th Anniversary & Toga Party event in Oregon that’s happening a little over a week from now, I thought this would be a fine time to share this classic Kingsmen clip produced by our associate producer David Jester.
Freddie Dennis, who later join the reunited Sonics, is the designated lead singer in this performance, as he was a member of the Kingsmen from 1974 to 1986.
David Jester shared some memories of the making of this video:
I had already produced a couple of Music Videos for Mr. Monte Van Struck for a band called “Puzzle”. Monte was also managing a Legendary Band – “The Kingsmen”… He didn’t have to ask me twice if I wanted to produce “Louie Louie”… I shot a take from 16 different camera angles… I was shooting alone, under extenuating circumstances, one of which was that I had a broken left shoulder from a skateboarding accident 3 days before…. And I had no assistant… Some hot babe whisked him away before we got the gear unloaded, and I didn’t see him again until we were driving off. He was chasing the truck down, trying to pull up his pants.. right out of the movies.. They tore down the house the next week… We broke out all the windows so there would not be a glare for my shot… Dick Peterson spent a lot of time editing with me…. Without a controller… Crash Edited on the Beat….
